Sanborn Orthodontics is proud to partner with the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation. Our mutual goal is to change lives through orthodontics and have a positive impact on our communities. A smile can inspire hope, increase self-confidence, and change a community. Since its creation in 2012, Dr. Sanborn and the volunteer board have provided 42 scholarships for a total of $231,000 of orthodontic treatment.
What is the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation?
Founded as a charitable nonprofit organization, the Smile for a Life foundation is an orthodontic organization dedicated to providing care to individuals who otherwise might not receive treatment. Launched in 2008, the foundation has grown to more than 85 orthodontic partners across the United States.
With local chapters, each having its own board of directors to determine awards, the foundation is community focused and locally based. The foundation sponsors the orthodontic care of hundreds of patients each year and has participating orthodontists throughout the US. If you or someone you know is deserving and could benefit from the gift of a smile, please fill out the application.
At Smile for a Lifetime Foundation, it is our mission to create self-confidence, inspire hope, and change the lives of children in our community in a dramatic way. The gift of a smile can do all this for deserving, underserved individuals who in turn can use this gift to better themselves and our community.
Words from Dr. Sanborn: “Our Mission Statement above sums up everything we are trying to do with our foundation, and it is our way of giving back to the community that has been so gracious to us! It is our goal every year to give ten to twelve orthodontic scholarships to the children in our local community to help create self-confidence, inspire hope, and change their lives in a dramatic way. It is our hope that this gift of a smile will, in turn, allow them to better themselves and our local community."

A few notes about the application process
Letters of recommendation are mandatory. Please submit no more than two letters, each no more than one page in length. Make sure the letters are typed. Please submit clear, high-quality pictures of the applicant’s face, smiling and showing his or her teeth. Since this is a need-based gift, we must be able to assess the applicant’s orthodontic need accurately in order to consider him or her.
Once submitted, the application, pictures, and letters of recommendation become the sole property of the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation and will not be returned. Before you submit the application and support materials, please make copies for your records.
The applicant must be a resident of the area that the local foundation serves. You may not apply to more than one foundation, nor may you apply to a foundation that serves an area in which you do not reside. The foundation reserves the right to disqualify applicants that are determined to live outside of the local area.
Incomplete applications and applicants that do not meet the above requirements will not be voted upon by the board of directors. The board shall meet quarterly to determine and distribute awards and award notifications.
It must be noted that neither Dr. Sanborn nor his orthodontic team chooses the recipients. They have only committed to provide the orthodontic services to the selected candidates. The recipients are chosen by an independent board of directors, who in no way entertain any bias or influence toward the candidates who are chosen.
Applications will be reviewed quarterly, and the ones chosen will be contacted by the Sanborn Orthodontics team upon selection by the board of directors.
